Horsehair Keepsake FAQs & Mailing Instructions

Thank you for trusting Black Cursive Creations with your horsehair. We know how special these keepsakes are, and we are honored to create something meaningful for you to treasure.

Where do I mail my horsehair?

Please mail all horsehair orders to:

Black Cursive Creations
PO Box 877
Lockhart, Texas 78644

How much horsehair should I send?

Find the end of your horse’s tailbone and select a lock of hair from the innermost section of the tail. Cut a lock approximately as big around as a nickel and as long as possible for each keepsake you are ordering.

Resin pendants require significantly less hair.

When in doubt, send a little extra! Any unused horsehair will be returned with your completed order unless you tell us otherwise.

What happens to my leftover horsehair?

Any unused horsehair will automatically be returned with your order unless you specifically tell us that you would like to donate it.

We greatly appreciate donations of leftover horsehair! Donated hair allows us to practice techniques and create sample pieces when developing new designs.

Please clearly note if you would like to donate your remaining hair. Otherwise, it will be returned to you.

Do I need to wash the horsehair before sending it?

Yes, if possible. We recommend thoroughly washing your horse’s tail and brushing it out before cutting the hair.

If the hair has already been removed from the horse, band the hair together and gently wash it by hand if possible. We will rewash the hair if needed, but providing clean hair helps us greatly.

Never package or mail wet horsehair. Sealing damp hair inside a plastic bag can cause mildew and may make the hair brittle.

How should I package the horsehair?

Once the horsehair is completely dry, place it inside a plastic baggie and then place the baggie inside a mailing envelope or package.

Please include a notecard with all of your order information or your order number. Packages submitted without contact info available may be delayed.

What information should I include with my horsehair?

Please include a notecard containing:

Your full name

Phone number

Shipping address

Email address

A description of each keepsake you have requested and been quoted for, or an order number

Any details such as colors, charms, sizes, designs, or other details previously discussed

Whether you would like your leftover horsehair returned or donated

Any specific date by which you hope to receive your keepsake - these are never guaranteed, just something to make note of in our notes. .

Should I require a signature when mailing my horsehair?

No. Please DO NOT require a signature.

Signature-required packages may be delayed because we are not always able to visit the post office during regular business hours.

Please contact us once you have mailed your horsehair so we know to begin watching for your package.

What size are your bracelets?

Our standard bracelets are approximately 7.5”–7.75” long and are designed to fit an average adult woman’s wrist.

Children’s bracelets are generally approximately 6.5”–7” long.

If you are ordering a child’s size or need a specific bracelet length, please clearly write the requested size on your order notecard. If no size is specified, your bracelet will be made at our standard length of approximately 7.5”–7.75”.

How do I determine my bracelet size?

An easy way to determine your preferred bracelet length is to take a piece of string and wrap it around your wrist. Leave enough room for the bracelet to move comfortably.

Cut the string at your desired length, then lay it flat and measure it.

Include that measurement on the notecard with your order.

How much is shipping?

Standard shipping is $8 per order and includes tracking.

Tracking information will be provided when your completed keepsake ships.

How long will my order take?

Our average turnaround time is approximately 4 weeks, but turnaround times may vary depending on our current order volume.

Orders are processed in the order in which they are paid and, for custom horsehair orders, the horsehair is received.

When your order enters our queue, we will notify you and provide an estimated turnaround time based on the number of orders ahead of yours.

Please understand that turnaround times are estimates and can occasionally exceed the expected timeframe.

Can I request my keepsake by a certain date?

Yes! Please write your requested need-by date clearly on your order notecard.

While we cannot guarantee deadlines unless specifically arranged, we will do our best to prioritize orders with important dates.

A rush fee may apply when expedited completion is requested or necessary.

How will I know when my order is finished?

When your keepsake is completed, we will send you a photo of the finished piece. Your order will then be packaged and shipped with tracking.

If you have not received a photo of your completed keepsake, your order most likely has not yet been completed or shipped.

What is your Christmas order deadline?

To guarantee that your order will ship before Christmas, your horsehair and order must be RECEIVED by November 15.

We will continue working on and shipping Christmas orders through December 15, but orders received after the December 1 deadline cannot be guaranteed to ship before Christmas.

Please remember that postal carriers experience significantly higher volume during the holiday season. We cannot be responsible for carrier delays once your package has been shipped.

Our Christmas guarantee applies to the ship date, not the delivery date.

Do your keepsakes have a warranty?

Yes! All Black Cursive Creations keepsakes include a lifetime warranty.

As the years go by, if your keepsake needs repair or replacement, we will do everything we reasonably can to repair or replace it at no charge.

Simply contact us and we will help get your keepsake fixed up!

Can I leave a review or share photos of my keepsake?

Absolutely — and we greatly appreciate it!

As a small business, reviews, recommendations, Facebook mentions, and word-of-mouth referrals mean so much to us.

If you love your finished keepsake, we would be grateful if you would leave a review on our page, mention Black Cursive Creations on Facebook, or share our work with your friends.

You are also welcome to save, post, and share any photos we send you of your completed keepsake.
